Association, Not Causation

Mood cycles and lunar tides

A 2018 study of rapid-cycling bipolar patients reported that mood-cycle synchrony with biweekly lunar cycles was periodically interrupted by 360° or 720° phase displacements coinciding with lunar perigee-syzygies.

The published study reports this as an observed coincidence in a small cohort — it does not establish that the displacement itself causes the disruption.

720 = 2⁴ × 3² × 5, giving it thirty whole-number divisors — the smallest integer with that many. It is divisible by every integer from 1 through 6, plus 8, 9, 10, and 12.

This is the structural reason 720 recurs across base-12 and base-60 systems: it was chosen for its divisibility, not the reverse.
